Ghana Project

The Ghana Project

The Center's "Ghana Project" is an ambitious research endeavor to explore the social, cultural, political, and economic dynamics of the Ghanaian state and its people. After several decades, interspersed with democratic and military rule in Ghana, the country ushered in the Fifth (5th) Republic in 1992 which has seen the transfer of power since. For now it is safe to say that Democracy in Ghana has been consolidated. There is therefore the need to examine the political, social, cultural and economic dynamics of the country and study these relations much as they are done in the developed world. The Ghana project will include examining the nature of the Ghanaian state, its democratic institutions, economy, human rights and human security, citizenship, political participation, perception about government and institutions, and voting behavior among others. The objective is to understand these dynamics in Ghana, create a database, and explore the potential to transfer the lessons learnt to other African states to expand democratic consolidation on the continent.
